We all know how AI has transformed today's world, right? AI is being integrated by smartphone manufacturers within their own devices to boost the capability of the device as well as get personalized results for the users too. But, will you believe me if I tell you that in the future what if AI isn't going to be only a software material but also a hardware just like our smartphone? I bet, you'll not. So that's why today in going to talk about that device which has been creating buzz for a period of time since it's launched: the Rabbit R1. Let's look into this device about what is Rabbit R1 and why is it so popular among the trends and whether is it good or not…
The Rabbit r1 is an artificial intelligence personal assistant device developed by tech startup Rabbit Inc, and designed by Teenage Engineering.
It is designed by Teenage Engineering (same one who previously had designed the Nothing ear) to perform various functions, including web searches and media control, using voice commands and touch interaction, that allows AI to be used to provide services commonly associated with smartphones and smart home devices.
Although this isn't the first type of device powered by AI fully to release, previously similar product was released but what's make it different from that device let's see.
But before that, quickly look into the specs of the device itself:
- Display: A 2.88-inch touchscreen for interactive user input.
- Input: push-to-talk button to activate voice commands; Gyroscope; Magnetometer; Accelerometer; GPS.
- Camera: 8 MP single camera, with a resolution of 3264x2448, allowing for the built-in AI to use Computer vision.
- Audio: Equipped with a speaker and dual microphones for audio interaction.
- Connectivity: Supports Wi-Fi and cellular connections to access internet services.
- Processor: Runs on a 2.3GHz MediaTek Helio processor.
- Memory: Contains 4GB of RAM for operational tasks.
- Storage: Offers 128GB of internal storage for data.
- Ports: Utilizes a USB-C port for charging and data connections.
The Rabbit R1 runes based on AI model which employs (LAM) Large Language Model to process tasks and also uses perplexity.ai which helps in the search engine as well as has a feature for connected apps like Spotify . It also has a camera for visual search help.
Now the Question arises, what makes it so different from previous Gen AI products?
Biggest reason for a game changer :
- The Rabbit R1 is the first device to have been based on the AOSP model which has integrated LAM to solve complex queries.
- Rabbit R1 also becomes the first device which comes with Visual search capability which is first of its kind.
- The third one which in fact I think is the functionality & ease of use of the device like listening to music in the device itself and typing.
MKBHD specifically said that the device was barely reviewable and was having a lot of shortcomings which he thinks isn't going to get accustomed by users.
Main downfall is the UI functionality which makes it not reviewable by reviewers. Too much complexity while most of the time it's too much time consuming. Biggest drawback is that although it has a battery of around 1000mAh, it still drains a lot. Another drawback is the speaker as well as the scroll able wheel which is used to navigate the UI.
Although it received a huge criticism, the Rabbit R1 founders were very much optimistic about this device. While it still runs on primarily single language : English, its plan to add additional language : arabic, chinese, french, german, Hindi, japanese, korean, spanish, swedish.
