Hey Explorers,
I’m back with another article!
Did you know that Google recently unveiled two new AI-powered safety tools for Android to help guide users away from phone scams and malicious apps? The tools include *Scam Detection in Phone and Google Play Protect Real-Time Alerts, which scan calls and app activities in real time for the user's safety from scams and software that might harm the device**.
Scam Detection in Phone
This is not just checking the number's history or looking for spam patterns, but rather actually hearing the conversation and spotting, through Google's AI, all potential warning signs in real-time: for instance, when someone is claiming to be from your bank and rushes you into transferring money, it would raise a red flag for Google AI.

This, too, will alert through sound, vibration, and display on the screen if a call appears suspicious enough. Currently, this capability is available for Google Pixel 6 and newer in the U.S. through the Google Beta Program, but it is limited only to analyzing calls with an English language. This feature, however respects your privacy because it doesn't store any of the call audio and transcripts on your device or forwards them to Google's servers.
Google Play Protect Live Threat Detection

The second tool is part of Google Play Protect, and it scans apps you install from the Play Store in real time. Because of AI's capacity to identify suspicious behaviors from apps, this feature is always alert for abnormal behavior such as accessing other applications without permission and will let you know right away if it detects any possible threat. This extent of security is offered across eligible Android devices worldwide building on the work of Google toward keeping safe the Android users from harm in the way of adversely impacting apps.
With these updates, Google is taking up the gauntlet in bringing protection from an onslaught of threats that are opening in Android, from malignancy on the malware side. Protecting users to be safer and still private is yet another role AI takes on.
