Esports: From Hobby to Olympic Sport
Esports has transitioned from a mere pastime to a serious sport, now officially recognized by the Indian government. This recognition has spurred rapid growth, attracting millions of players and viewers while generating significant revenue. Indian athletes have already made their mark, with notable performances in prestigious international competitions such as the Commonwealth Esports Championships and the Asian Games.
The Olympic Dream
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) recently announced the Olympic Esports Games, set to debut in 2025. This event presents India with a golden opportunity to build on its esports success and compete for glory at the Olympic level. As India celebrates National Sports Day in honor of hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand, it’s time to recognize esports as a modern-day discipline with the potential to produce national heroes.
Building a Competitive Edge
India’s recent successes, including six medals at the Paris Olympics, underscore the country's strength in traditional sports. Now, with the Olympic Esports Games on the horizon, Indian gamers have a new opportunity to excel in the virtual arena. Recent tournaments like the Battlegrounds Mobile India Masters Series (BGMS) and Valorant Challengers South Asia Split have showcased India’s top esports talent, providing the perfect environment for athletes to hone their skills.
Industry Support and Growth
Leading the charge in nurturing esports talent is NODWIN Gaming, which provides platforms like BGMS and grassroots initiatives like the OMEN Valorant Campus Quest. These events offer aspiring players a chance to compete against established teams, with substantial prize pools that motivate gamers to pursue their dreams.

SuperGaming, a Pune-based developer, is also playing a crucial role by organizing grassroots tournaments like Indus Inferno. Their upcoming game, Indus Battle Royale, deeply rooted in Indian culture, is set to further enhance the skills of Indian esports players.
The Role of Technology
Success in esports is not just about skill; it also depends on having the right tools. CyberPowerPC, a leading gaming PC brand, has recently entered the Indian market, aiming to equip gamers with top-notch hardware to help them reach their full potential.
