Today is Buddha Purnima 

Buddha Purnima, also known as Vesak, is a sacred day celebrated by Buddhists worldwide. It celebrates the birth, enlightenment, and death of Gautama Buddha, the founder of Buddhism. This auspicious day occurs on the full moon of the Vaisakha month (April-May) and has great spiritual importance.

Historical Significance

The day honors three pivotal events in the Buddha’s life:

• His birth in Lumbini, Nepal.
• His enlightenment under the Bodhi tree in Bodh Gaya, India.
• His passing into Mahaparinirvana in Kushinagar, India.

The journey of the Buddha from a prince called Siddhartha Gautama to the Enlightened one, who taught deep teachings on the way to escape from suffering, is represented by these milestones taken together.

Celebrations and Traditions

Buddha Purnima is celebrated by devotees through a variety of rituals and customs. Decorations are placed in temples and monasteries, and special prayers, chants, and talks are given. To develop their spiritual understanding, people practice meditation and listen to speeches on the Buddha's teachings.
