In today's post let's talk about what might be the new normal for the smartphone industry in the future. Are you guys able to guess it? Well if your guess was foldables then you have got the right answer. Foldables are a true example of what we can achieve by pushing the boundaries of innovation.
Over the years the foldables have seen rapid improvements be it the robust hinges or better screen protection. Thanks to these developments they have become an on-the-go choice for multi-taskers or cinematic lovers.
The journey of foldables for Honor has quite been an interesting one. With a total of 4 phones in the market, Honor has constantly tried to redefine the boundaries of what foldables can achieve. So let's have a deep dive into the incredible journey of Honor foldables starting from Honor Magic V and going all the way to the latest Honor V2.
Honor Magic V
It all got started from here, Honor Magic V, their first Foldable Flagship. Looking at the design Magic V carried a 14.3 mm ultra-thin folded profile and a 6.7 mm ultra-thin unfolded profile. Holding together the two halves with elegance and precision, was the ultra-thin, rotating water droplet hinge crafted from aerospace-grade materials. This innovative technology made sure the screen crease seamlessly vanished upon unfolding while also having a thin and light-folding body.
Seeing upfront the display was packed with all the top-notch trending features of that time. With a 7.4" inner Foldable & Flexible OLED and a 6.45" 120 Hz refresh rate outer Nano-Crystal OLED display the viewing experience of this smartphone was immersive. Alongside all this, it also had 1920 Hz High-Frequency PWM Dimming to ensure your safety.
Deep inside it was powered by that time's latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and had a magnificent triple camera setup along with Dual-Front Cameras. With a 50 MP Wide Angle f/1.9 aperture primary sensor, 50 MP Ultra Spectrum f/2.0 aperture camera, and 50 MP Ultra-Wide Angle f/2.2 aperture camera it was the best offering out there.
Honor Magic Vs
Released at the MWC trade show on 27feb 2023, this was second in the Honor's foldable line-up. It featured a much improved Single-piece casting Gearless Hinge which made it super light along with reducing the the number of support components from 92 to just 4. This improved the overall structure making it 34% lighter than Magic V, which brought high performance, and high strength.
While there were slight changes in the physical dimensions and display, the main highlights consisted of improved brightness by 20% while reducing 10% of power consumption, a jump in battery capacity all the way up to 5000 mAh, and a few minor changes in height, width, depth, and weight along with keeping the same screen to body and aspect ratio compared to Magic V.
On the other hand, the UI experience got richer, more fluent, and smoother thanks to Magic OS 7.1 based on the human-factor optimization of HONOR OS Turbo X. Powered by the latest Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, the Magic Vs saw a completely different camera setup with Triple Rear Camera 54MP IMX800 Main Camera, 50MP Ultra Wide and Macro Camera and 8MP telephoto Camera combined with 16 MP f 2.45 Dual Front Cameras.
Honor Magic V2
Honor Magic V2, the smartphone that changed the whole foldable industry and forced major players like Samsung to brainstorm again on their latest models. Termed the slimmest and lightest folding smartphone, Magic V2 is just 9.9mm thick when folded, 4.7mm thick unfolded weighing 231 gm only. The hinge mechanism also got an upgrade to the Honor Super Light Titanium Hinge delivering a pure flat screen when unfolded.
Thanks to the latest hinge technology the screen crease was no longer a problem. The display saw a major upgrade in V2, moving closer to a more practical aspect ratio ditching the conventional narrow displays. Additionally, the Risk-Free Dimming got bumped to 3840 Hz ensuring a comfortable viewing experience along with prioritizing the safety of your eyes.
Fueled by Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 and Honor's three-boost engine, it is capable of delivering unparalleled top-notch performance. The Magic V2 also elevated the camera and photography experience with its flagship 3 Camera setup which includes a 50MP Wide f/1.9 Primary Camera, a 50MP Ultra Wide f/2.0 Camera, and a 20MP f/2.4, OIS telephoto Camera
These were accompanied by an advanced 8x8 dToF Laser Focusing System and Flicker Sensor + Color Temperature Sensor ensuring every shot captures the essence of perfection
bringing your moments to life with stunning clarity and depth.
