Diwali, often referred to as Deepavali, is a significant Hindu festival that represents the triumph of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance. While the festival holds various interpretations and significance across different religions and regions, the fundamental themes of justice and liberation resonate universally. 

In Hinduism

Diwali commemorates the return of Prince Rama, along with his wife Sita and brother Lakshman, to Ayodhya after a 14-year exile, during which the citizens illuminated their homes with lamps to celebrate their homecoming.

In Jainism

the festival signifies the day when Lord Mahavira, the last Tirthankara, achieved nirvana. 

For Sikhs

Diwali marks the victory of the sixth guru, Guru Hargobind, over Emperor Jahangir in 1619. Additionally, Diwali may align with various harvest and New Year festivities in other cultures.

The celebrations of Diwali typically involve:-
Adorning homes, temples, and workplaces with oil lamps, candles, and lanterns
- Engaging in worship
- Distributing sweets- Enjoying fireworks
- Performing reenactments of the Ramayana
- Burning effigies of demon kings
