This leads us to the significance of Durga. Durga represents one of the numerous incarnations of Devi or Shakti. Unlike some of Devi's other forms, which were manifested for the purpose of motherhood, Durga was specifically created to vanquish a demon. This demon, Mahisa Asura, was a buffalo demon and a relative of the gods. He received a boon of immortality from Brahma, the creator god, with the stipulation that he could only be defeated by a woman. Empowered by his newfound immortality, Mahisa Asura, along with other Asuras, launched an assault on the gods, rendering them unable to prevail. In response, the gods unified their energies to form Durga, the female incarnation of Devi. According to tradition, Durga and Mahisa Asura engaged in combat for nine nights, culminating in Durga's triumph. This victory is celebrated during the festival of Navaratri, which translates to "nine nights."
Thank you
