Blocking on X Is the New Invitation: Welcome, Haters!

In the ever-surprising world of Elon Musk’s brainchild, X (formerly known as Twitter for the sane among us), the platform has gifted us a brand-new reason to scratch our heads. Buckle up, folks! Musk has decided that blocking people should be like giving them a front-row seat to your life. Yes, you read that right. Blocking someone? No worries! They'll still get to scroll through all your posts like a creepy neighbor peeking through the blinds.

On Monday, the X overlord himself (Musk, of course) replied to a user, making it crystal clear that the block button will now simply stop people from engaging with you—but they'll still be able to sip their tea and watch your posts from the sidelines. It’s like an “all-access pass” for trolls, now with 100% more freedom to lurk.

Currently, when you block someone, X has this lovely “You’re blocked” message plastered all over your profile—denying them the pleasure of seeing your brilliant (or questionable) takes on life. But in Musk’s latest act of digital benevolence, blocked users will still get to see everything you post. The difference? You just can’t hear them clap back. So basically, it’s like screaming into a soundproof booth while everyone else enjoys your show.

Musk’s reasoning? Oh, it’s as logical as you'd expect. Apparently, people can already stalk you by logging out or hopping onto their secret alt accounts, so why not just streamline the creepiness? In a nutshell: “Hey, trolls are gonna troll anyway, why not make it a little easier for them?”

But wait, it gets better. Musk’s dislike for the block button is no secret. He’s been throwing shade at it for a while now. Last year, he famously declared that the block feature “makes no sense” and suggested replacing it with an “ultra-mute” button instead. Because nothing screams “freedom of speech” like giving your haters the best seats in the house while they can’t say a word.

Of course, this leads to the obvious problem: bad actors (read: trolls, spammers, and your ex) will have the power to keep lurking in your digital life, just not engaging directly. That’s right—Musk’s update is practically rolling out the red carpet for harassers everywhere. “Welcome to X! Where we love your content so much, even people who block you can’t look away!”

In conclusion, if you’ve ever dreamed of blocking someone, only for them to still get front-row access to your posts… congratulations! Elon Musk has made your dreams come true. It’s like handing out VIP passes to the people you specifically don’t want at your party.

What’s next? Maybe X will introduce a feature where blocked users get notified every time you tweet. Because why not? After all, privacy is just so 2020, right?

They can execute this in a good way like that feature on instagram, they should leave the block option as it is and make a seperate restrict option.
