Explorers!

Steven Sasson, an engineer at Eastman Kodak, invented the first digital camera in 1975. This camera was very different from the ones we use today. It weighed about 8 pounds (3.6 kg) and had a resolution of just 0.01 megapixels.

A Different Kind of Innovation
Steven Sasson’s journey into digital photography began with a unique vision. Using a lens from a Kodak movie camera, 16 batteries, and a newly invented Fairchild CCD electronic sensor, Sasson created a camera that could capture black-and-white images and store them on a digital cassette tape. The first digital photograph took 23 seconds to capture.

What is Digital Photography?
Digital photography involves capturing images using electronic sensors that convert light into digital data. Unlike traditional film photography, digital cameras allow for instant viewing and sharing of photos, revolutionizing the way we capture and experience moments. More Information
  • ‌The first digital camera displayed photos on a TV screen, a feature that was revolutionary at the time.
  • ‌Sasson’s invention laid the foundation for the digital cameras we use today, which are now integrated into almost every smartphone and device.
  • ‌The technology used in digital cameras has evolved rapidly, leading to the high-resolution, feature-rich cameras we enjoy today.
So, the next time you snap a photo with your smartphone, remember the incredible journey of innovation that started with Steven Sasson’s first digital camera.
