Bluetooth has long been used for locating objects, but it's been far from accurate. The introduction of Bluetooth 6.0 aims to fix that with Channel Sounding, a new feature that offers more precise tracking without needing UWB technology. Android 15 has already baked in support for this feature, even though Bluetooth 6.0-compatible devices aren't out yet.

Key Benefits of Channel Sounding

Accurate distance measurement: Between 10-30 cm, a significant improvement over the current RSSI method.
Widespread applications: Useful for item tracking, proximity detection, indoor navigation, and even digital car keys.

While we’ll have to wait for hardware that supports Bluetooth 6.0, Android 15 ensures that when these devices arrive, they’ll be ready to take full advantage of Channel Sounding.
