Imagine waking up one morning to a cheerful “Good Morning!” message projected onto your ceiling. As you get out of bed, your to-do list for the day appears right in front of you. While you get ready for work, the latest news updates are displayed around you, keeping you informed and prepared for the day ahead.
After a long day at work, you’re feeling exhausted. To rejuvenate, you put on your special VR gear and start your favorite movie. As you move your head, you can see everything in the movie’s room and even get close to the elements, making the experience incredibly immersive.
Yes, this is the future we are heading towards with Extended Reality (XR) technology. This seamless integration of digital and real-world elements is made possible by XR technology.
Extended Reality
Image
Extended Reality (XR) extends our reality by either enhancing it with digital details or creating entirely new virtual experiences. This technology encompasses several immersive technologies, including:
  • Augmented Reality (AR): Augmented Reality (AR) is a technology that adds digital elements to the real world. Imagine seeing digital directions overlaid on the streets as you walk using your smartphone camera.
  • Virtual Reality (VR): VR creates a completely virtual environment. When you put on a VR headset, you might feel like you’re inside a video game or exploring a different world.

Daily Life
Brands like Lenskart, Amazon, Flipkart, and many others are already utilizing Extended Reality (XR) technology, and you can too. These technologies are becoming increasingly accessible, allowing everyday users to experience their benefits. For instance, Lenskart’s “Virtual Eyeglass Try-On” feature and Amazon’s “View in your Room” feature are practical applications of AR technology in smartphones.

Meta’s Quest 2 is indeed a powerful VR tool that immerses users in fully virtual environments. It enhances daily life in many ways, from entertainment and fitness to productivity and social interaction. This VR tool not only shows the user virtual worlds but also responds to various stimuli. For example, as you move your head while wearing the device, you can see different parts of the virtual reality. Using controllers, you can interact with the environment and get responses accordingly. Isn’t it amazing and immersive?

Growth 📈📈
The latest AR/VR market forecasts predict that the industry will earn $13.8 billion in revenues for 2022 and grow to $50.9 billion by 2026, reflecting a five-year compound annual growth rate of 32.3%. This projected growth is significant, building on the multiple ways AR/VR technologies are already being used by a wide range of industries. This rapid growth indicates a significant shift in how various industries will adopt and integrate AR/VR technologies, impacting everything from entertainment to healthcare.

What’s Next?
The future of XR is indeed exciting! Imagine this: You decide to play a game. Your room transforms into a battleground, and your favourite hero appears, fighting demons right in your space. You assist the hero by using a remote-controlled sniper to take down the demons.
Isn’t that thrilling? With Mixed Reality, you can blend the real world with the immersive experience of VR, allowing you to interact with digital elements within your actual surroundings. This technology bridges the gap between reality and virtual environments, creating a seamless and engaging experience.
Apple’s Vision Pro is a great example of Mixed Reality, combining the features of both AR and VR into one powerful tool.

The Future
Extended reality (XR) technology is amazing and has many uses. I can’t wait for the day when we can not only see digital elements in the real world but also feel them. Imagine XR combined with effects like those in 4DX cinemas, where moving seats, wind, fog, water, lights, snow, and scents make movies feel real. You might even feel impacts on your back and air blasts on your neck. Combining these with XR would make experiences even more immersive and interactive!
