Hey Explorers,

Hope you all are doing well and enjoying exploring the magic of the Magicnation Community.
Did You Know?
Contra video game was one of the Konami’s biggest console hits of the era. Once upon a time, the name Contra meant something. It represented grade-A, top-notch arcade action. It represented some of the best music the NES could produce, and it promised countless hours of excitement and replayability. Contra was a title so good it was worth buying an NES strictly to have it. Over the years, Contra continued to slam dunk titles over and over and over again, across a variety of consoles, ensuring that every fan could join in on the frenetic action.

But unlike other famous series from the 80s, Contra fell from grace and has been largely forgotten. Fans still remember the thrills from yesteryear, and new fans discover the excellence of the classic titles, but Contra just hasn’t been the same for many years. Contra’s road has been one paved with precision execution, mind-bogglingly bad moments, a brief return to form, and then the slums of mediocrity. Few legacy series have had such a roller coaster ride as Contra has. Contra was one of my favourite video games.
Characters of Contra -
Originally developed by Konami as an arcade title in 1987, Contra did one thing, and it did it very well: straight up, no-nonsense shooting action. Players took the roles of Bill Rizer and Lance Bean, two highly trained combat operatives tasked with defending the Earth from an invading alien force. Bill (Blue guy) is inspired by Arnold Schwarzenegger in Predator (1987) and Lance (red guy) is inspired by Sylvester Stallone in Rambo: First Blood Part II (1985).

At its core, Contra was run-and-gun gaming at its finest. Players ran from left to right, dodging and jumping through various locations, and were able to collect a variety of weapon upgrades along the way. Contra’s simplicity was what made it so good: it was incredibly easy to pick up and play, and it didn’t bog itself down with complex gameplay mechanics. Complementing such simple gameplay was rocking music, vibrant graphics, and tight controls. The massive success of Contra’s arcade release guaranteed a home console release, and in 1988, Contra burst onto home consoles.
Evolution of Contra -
When the next generation of game consoles blew the doors off the wall, Konami was right in the thick of it, giving gamers some of the very best titles on the Super NES and Sega Genesis. 1992’s Contra III: The Alien Wars marked a shift in the series for a variety of reasons: first, it was the first Contra title to be released in the 16-bit era; it featured top-down Mode-7 segments that further pushed the boundaries of its classic gameplay formula; and it was the first Contra title to be led by developer Nobuya Nakazato. Alien Wars was a massive success and is often included in many Greatest Games of All Time lists.

The new generation kids will never know the craze of Contra among all peoples during those golden days and Contra was my favourite game too. Let me know in comment section have played Contra in your childhood.
