Did you Know ?
Fat or carbs don’t make you fat.

The main factor blamed for obesity is often fat because it contains more calories per gram than protein and carbs. However, this couldn’t be further from the truth. These factors are not the only things to consider when deciding on a diet. While both fat and carbs can be fattening, being able to balance this with the rest of the diet can result in positive weight loss.
Calories In vs. Calories Out
Weight gain or loss primarily comes down to the balance between the calories you consume (calories in) and the calories you expend (calories out). If you consume more calories than your body needs for energy, the excess is stored as fat. Conversely, if you consume fewer calories than your body needs, your body will use stored fat for energy, leading to weight loss.
Macronutrient Composition
Fat:
  • Fat has 9 calories per gram, which is more than double the 4 calories per gram found in protein and carbohydrates.
  • Because of its high caloric density, it is easy to consume a lot of calories from fatty foods without realizing it.
  • However, fats are essential for various bodily functions, including hormone production and nutrient absorption. Healthy fats (e.g., those from avocados, nuts, and olive oil) can be part of a balanced diet.
Carbohydrates:
  • Carbs also provide 4 calories per gram.
  • They are a primary energy source, particularly for the brain and during physical activity.
  • Not all carbs are created equal. Simple carbs (e.g., sugar, white bread) can cause rapid spikes in blood sugar and insulin levels, which may contribute to fat storage and increased appetite. Complex carbs (e.g., whole grains, vegetables) are digested more slowly and provide more sustained energy.
Protein:
  • Protein provides 4 calories per gram.
  • It is crucial for muscle repair, immune function, and other bodily processes.
  • Protein also has a higher thermic effect, meaning your body uses more energy to digest it compared to fats and carbs, which can aid in weight management.
Although fats and carbs can contribute to weight gain if consumed in excess, they are not inherently fattening. A balanced approach that considers overall caloric intake, macronutrient balance, and food quality, tailored to individual needs, is key to effective weight management.
Health is the best thing you can invest in, so stay healthy and well 😊
