The Birth of the Hindustan 10

The Hindustan 10 is like the grandparent of all Indian cars. It was the very first car made in India, and its journey began way back in 1949.

1. Where It Came From:

- The Hindustan 10 was based on a British car called the Morris 10 Series M.
- It was assembled by Hindustan Motors Limited in a small factory in Port Okha, Gujarat, starting in 1949.

2. Technical Specifications:

- The car had a 1.3-liter engine that produced 37 horsepower (bhp) when it revved up.
- It had a 4-speed manual transmission.
- The top speed was around 100 km/h (that's pretty fast for those days!).
- The car's chassis was built with solid front and rear axles, kind of like a sturdy wagon.
- It weighed about 934 kilograms (that's like having a small elephant in your garage!).

3. Unique Features:

- In the UK, this car belonged to a group called the 'tillies.' They were like the cool kids of the car world.
- The Hindustan 10 played a big role in kickstarting India's car industry. It was like the first domino that set everything in motion.
