IT TAKES THE INTERNATIONAL SPACE STATION 92 MINUTES TO ORBIT EARTH.
The International Space Station (ISS) travels at an astonishing speed of 17,150 mph equivalent to 27600.25 kmph while orbiting the Earth. Just imagine this speed, reaching about ten times the speed of a commercial aircraft or traveling approx. 8 Km a second, this is what makes it an engineering marvel.
This staggering momentum makes it possible for the ISS to orbit the Earth once every 92 minutes. And that's just the tip of the iceberg. This means the ISS orbits the Earth 16 times a day and on top of that the Astronauts living there get to witness sunrise and sunset every 90 minutes.
The magic of this high speed allows the ISS to defy Earth's gravity and orbit in the lower Earth Orbit. The speed and orbit also help in the observation and study of Earth's atmosphere, space weather, and the effects of long-term space travel on the human body, providing invaluable data for future space missions.
