In another incident, a Bluesky user shared an image of an AI-generated summary from The New York Times that falsely claimed Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had been arrested, while the original alert only mentioned a warrant issued by the International Criminal Court.
The criticism wasn’t limited to just one or two errors. Geoffrey Fowler, a technology columnist for The Washington Post, highlighted the dangers of such inaccuracies in his column. “These mangled summaries were amusing on low-stakes text messages, but more dangerous on alerts from news apps. One time it incorrectly alerted me that Donald Trump had endorsed Tim Walz for president,” Fowler wrote. - User Controls: iOS 18.3 beta 3 introduces enhanced user control over notification summaries. Users can now disable summaries for specific apps directly from the lock screen or notification center. Additionally, the Settings app will warn users that AI-generated summaries “may contain errors.”
The notification summaries feature was first introduced in iOS 18.1 as part of Apple’s Apple Intelligence suite. While it offered convenience by condensing notifications for quick reading, the inaccuracies have overshadowed its potential benefits.
